Broccoli sprout powder and broccoli seed extract are not the same ingredient. Sprout powder generally begins with young broccoli sprouts that are dried and milled. Seed extract begins with broccoli seeds and uses an extraction process to concentrate selected compounds such as glucoraphanin. The important point is that broccoli seed extract is not automatically weaker, less natural or less useful than sprout powder. It is a different manufacturing route, and its quality depends on what the extract contains, how it is formulated and what the finished product has been tested to do.
The ingredient name does not tell you whether the enzyme came along
This is where the label gets more interesting.
Glucoraphanin is the precursor. Myrosinase is an enzyme that helps convert glucoraphanin into sulforaphane. If you only compare the words seed and sprout, you can miss that enzyme question completely.
Whole broccoli seed or sprout material can retain its own myrosinase when processing preserves the enzyme. An extraction process may separate or reduce enzyme activity depending on how it is done, so the words broccoli seed extract do not confirm whether active myrosinase is still there.
Some extract-based formulas solve that by adding myrosinase from another plant source, such as mustard seed. That can be a deliberate formulation choice rather than a weakness.
Human research helps show why this matters. A 2015 study using defined broccoli seed and sprout preparations found that active endogenous myrosinase materially increased sulforaphane bioavailability. A 2026 randomised crossover study then compared the same glucoraphanin-rich broccoli seed extract with and without added mustard-seed myrosinase and found greater sulforaphane metabolite recovery when the enzyme was included.
Those studies do not mean every myrosinase-containing product performs the same way, and their percentages should not be applied to our product. Because sometimes standardisation is exactly what you want.

What matters is whether the maker tells you enough to understand the product. Where did the ingredient start? What has been concentrated or standardised? Is active myrosinase present, added or absent? Has the finished formula been tested in a meaningful way?
