Kiwifruit Supplement NZ: What to Know Before Choosing Kiwifruit Capsules

Search for a kiwifruit supplement in NZ and the first few options can look surprisingly similar. The front labels may all say kiwifruit, kiwifruit extract or kiwifruit capsules, yet the ingredients inside can be doing quite different jobs.

That matters when you are trying to choose a product for everyday digestive support. The useful question is not simply whether a capsule contains kiwifruit. It is which kiwifruit ingredient is inside, how much you get in the daily serve, and why that ingredient was chosen.

That is exactly how we think about our Kiwifruit Extract Prebiotic + Enzyme Formula. We use two separate NZ-grown kiwifruit ingredients, one gold and one green, because they bring different things to the formula.

The word kiwifruit only tells you part of the story

A front label has limited space, so it often gives you the broad ingredient story first. Kiwifruit sounds simple and familiar. But once you turn the bottle around, the details matter much more.

One kiwifruit ingredient may be included for its fibre and prebiotic properties. Another may be selected for enzyme activity. A capsule may contain one of those ideas, both of them, or something quite different again.

So when you are comparing kiwifruit capsules in NZ, look past the fruit name and find the actual ingredient description. If a product is talking about an enzyme, look for information about enzyme activity. If it is talking about a named prebiotic ingredient, look for the ingredient name and serving amount rather than assuming every kiwifruit powder has the same research behind it.

This is one reason we do not treat the words gold kiwifruit and green kiwifruit as interchangeable. In our formula, they have deliberately different roles.

Why we pair gold and green kiwifruit

Our gold kiwifruit ingredient is Livaux, an NZ-grown gold kiwifruit powder. We use it as the prebiotic side of the formula. The research we refer to for Livaux belongs to that named gold kiwifruit ingredient at the doses and conditions actually studied.

Our green ingredient is OxiFend, an NZ-grown green kiwifruit enzyme extract. We use it as the actinidin enzyme side of the formula. Actinidin is a protease, which simply means it is an enzyme that acts on proteins.

Those roles are complementary, but they are not the same. That distinction is the important part. A kiwifruit prebiotic supplement and a kiwifruit enzyme supplement can sound almost identical from the front of the pack, while the reason for including the kiwifruit may be quite different.

If you would like a deeper look at the digestion research behind different kiwifruit ingredients, our kiwifruit extract benefits and digestion guide goes further into the science. Here, we are keeping the focus on what those differences mean when you are choosing a capsule.

Our 600 mg Gold + 500 mg Green Pairing, Explained

We built our formula so the amount and role of each kiwifruit ingredient are easy to see.

  • Each capsule contains 300 mg NZ-grown Livaux gold kiwifruit powder.
  • Each capsule contains 250 mg NZ-grown OxiFend green kiwifruit enzyme extract.
  • The stated daily serve is two capsules, giving you 600 mg Livaux plus 500 mg OxiFend.
  • The two-capsule serve has declared actinidin activity of 12,500 CDU.

That means the gold side is not there simply because gold kiwifruit sounds premium, and the green side is not there simply to add more kiwifruit. We use the gold ingredient for the prebiotic part of the formula and the separate green extract for the actinidin enzyme part.

For someone comparing an NZ kiwifruit supplement, this is the level of detail worth looking for. The fruit name is the starting point. The ingredient, serving and intended role tell you what you are actually choosing.

What the ingredient research can tell us

Research is most useful when it stays attached to the ingredient that was actually tested. That sounds obvious, but it is especially important with kiwifruit supplements because two products can share the same fruit name while using different materials and different serving amounts.

What we know about the Livaux amount

A 2025 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial tested 600 mg of Livaux daily for 28 days in 85 participants. The study reported an increase in the relative abundance of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii in the Livaux group, while the placebo group did not show that increase.1

The dose is relevant to our formula because our stated two-capsule daily serve currently contains 600 mg of Livaux. But there is an important line we do not cross: that trial tested Livaux as an ingredient. It did not test our complete gold plus green Kiwi Superfoods formula.

So we use that study to explain why Livaux is an interesting prebiotic ingredient at the amount included in our daily serve. We do not turn it into proof that the finished supplement will produce a guaranteed gut or symptom outcome.

Why actinidin makes the green ingredient different

Actinidin has been studied for its role in protein digestion. Laboratory work has shown that actinidin-containing green kiwifruit extract can change the breakdown of some food proteins under simulated stomach and small-intestinal conditions.2 A small human crossover study using whole green kiwifruit with a beef meal also reported faster appearance of some amino acids in the blood, although it did not find a difference in the total amount of essential amino acids absorbed.3

That gives us a sensible reason to value declared actinidin activity in a green kiwifruit enzyme ingredient. It helps explain why OxiFend has a place in our formula. It does not mean the finished product has been proven to treat bloating, indigestion, constipation, IBS or another digestive condition.

Why one green extract cannot speak for every other one

There is a useful reminder in a separate 2015 randomised trial. Researchers tested a different freeze-dried green kiwifruit extract at 1 g per day in adults with constipation and did not find a significant advantage over placebo for bowel frequency or gastrointestinal comfort.4

That result does not tell you what our OxiFend ingredient will or will not do. It tells you something more basic and more useful when shopping: evidence from one kiwifruit extract cannot simply be borrowed by another product because the fruit name looks the same.

How our kiwifruit capsules fit into an ordinary day

Once you have checked what is inside, using the product should be straightforward. Our bottle contains 60 capsules, which is 30 stated servings. The serving is two capsules daily with water, and you can take them with or without food.

The formula is a Product of New Zealand, is gluten free and is suitable for vegetarians. It contains kiwifruit.

For us, that simple day-to-day fit matters. A supplement can have an interesting ingredient story, but it still needs to be easy enough to use consistently. Two capsules with water gives you the full stated serve of both the gold prebiotic ingredient and the green enzyme extract without needing to split them across separate products.

If you are looking at digestive wellbeing more broadly, our Gut Health Reset brings the supplement conversation back to the basics too, including food, hydration and everyday habits. Our capsules are designed to complement those foundations, not replace them.

A quick suitability note

Our formula contains kiwifruit, so it is not suitable for someone with a known kiwifruit allergy. If you are pregnant or lactating, seek professional health advice before taking it.

If allergy is the part you are unsure about, our kiwifruit extract allergy and actinidin guide covers that topic in more detail without turning this article into a long safety list.

If you have a health condition, take medicines or are unsure whether a supplement suits you, a qualified health professional can help you make that call.

Common questions

What should I look for in a kiwifruit supplement in NZ?

Look beyond the word kiwifruit. Check the named ingredient, the amount per daily serve, what role it has in the formula, whether enzyme activity is declared where relevant, and whether the research actually matches that ingredient and dose.

Are green and gold kiwifruit supplements the same?

No. Green and gold kiwifruit ingredients can be used for different reasons. In our formula, Livaux gold kiwifruit powder is the prebiotic side, while OxiFend green kiwifruit extract supplies the actinidin enzyme side.

Is Kiwi Superfoods Kiwifruit Extract a prebiotic or a digestive enzyme?

Both. Kiwi Superfoods Kiwifruit Extract combines a gold kiwifruit prebiotic ingredient with a separate green kiwifruit enzyme extract, so the two roles come from two different NZ-grown ingredients.

What is actinidin in a kiwifruit supplement?

Actinidin is a protein-digesting enzyme found particularly in green kiwifruit. Research helps explain why it is used in digestive formulas, but it does not mean a kiwifruit supplement is proven to treat digestive symptoms or conditions.

How many Kiwi Superfoods kiwifruit capsules are in a daily serve?

The stated daily serve is two capsules. That provides 600 mg Livaux gold kiwifruit powder, 500 mg OxiFend green kiwifruit enzyme extract and 12,500 CDU of declared actinidin activity.

Who should avoid a kiwifruit supplement?

Anyone with a known kiwifruit allergy should avoid a kiwifruit supplement that contains kiwifruit. If you are pregnant or lactating, seek professional health advice before using our formula, and check with a qualified health professional if you are unsure whether it suits your health situation.

Why we think this pairing is worth considering

If you are searching for a kiwifruit supplement in New Zealand, we think it is worth choosing one that tells you more than the fruit name. Our formula gives the gold and green ingredients separate jobs, states the amount of each in the daily serve, and declares the actinidin activity of the enzyme side.

We like that clarity because it lets you see exactly why both ingredients are there. You get 600 mg of NZ-grown Livaux gold kiwifruit powder as the prebiotic component, alongside 500 mg of NZ-grown OxiFend green kiwifruit enzyme extract with 12,500 CDU actinidin activity in the stated two-capsule serve.

If that combination matches what you are looking for, you can explore our NZ-grown Kiwifruit Extract Prebiotic + Enzyme Formula and check the full ingredient and serving details before you buy.
